INTRODUCTION

I am currently working on a series of writings on the subject of the history of religion/s.

I expect that I shall often make reference to this work by Alexander Hislop, written during the first one-half of the 19th century (1800s).

In order that all should be clear I have read the 3d edition of this book, in it's entirety, into a high quality digital recording device.

It is a difficult book to read and even more difficult to understand.

All of the names and lack of knowledge regarding proper pronunciation can often be found to keep one from reading and fully understanding and comprehending exactly what it is that Bishop Hislop is trying to tell us.

We have 150 years more of intensive archaeological excavating to give us a picture as to whether Hislop was on the right track or not.

I say he was.

Very much so.
